BoAt Smart Ring is here to help analogue watch lovers track fitness too

If my dear Seiko 5 has taught me anything, it is that smartwatches are not for me. If you’re someone who doesn’t need notifications and email alerts on your wrist, there is absolutely no reason for you to pick a budget or even premium smartwatch over your go-to analogue timepiece.

However, this also means you need to leave behind the health-tracking features of modern smartwatches. Well, unless you want to show up at a party with two watches, and get the door shown to you soon after.

That is the market where smart rings are making their entrance, addressing the pain point that is the lack of portable health-tracking without a smartwatch replacing analogue watches. Wearables accessory maker BoAt has just launched the BoAt Smart Ring – one of the first smart rings in India. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

BoAt Smart Ring features and specifications

BoAt first announced the Smart Ring last month. The wearable comes with smart touch controls that let users control music, click pictures via their smartphone and even navigate through video playback on your phone. Data from the ring will be visible in the BoAt Ring app, since the device itself has no display.

The BoAt Smart Ring comes in three different sizes – the S7 (17.40mm), the S9 (19.25mm), and the S11 (20.85mm). All three sport a metallic build, 6-axis motion sensors, and 5atm water resistance at up to 50m under water. BoAt will also let users first order themselves a measuring kit to help them get the ring size right. The ring also features multiple sports modes for activity-specific tracking of burnt calories.

Apart from that, the Smart Ring lets you track your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, body temperature and will even help out with sleep tracking. An emergency calling feature is present to trigger SOS calls when you need help. Lastly, the ring features a 7-day battery life, which can be recharged with a proprietary charger when depleted.

BoAt Smart Ring pricing and availability

The BoAt Smart Ring is priced at Rs 8,999 and can be purchased from Croma, the BoAt website and other major retailers starting today.

While the market for smart rings is currently very small, BoAt does share the space with rival wearable maker Noise, which also recently introduced the Noise Luna Ring. While you can’t buy Noise Luna Ring yet, you can get a pre-order pass for Rs 2,000 on the Noise website. However, should the early adopter in you not accept that, the BoAt Smart Ring is available right away.
