ChatGPT has had an app for both Android phones and iPhones for a while now, but to make matters even more convenient for those who like using the chatbot regularly, ChatGPT also got WhatsApp integration back in December 2024. While ChatGPT in a WhatsApp chat window was initially limited to text input, it now supports more ways to understand you.
Open AI, the parent company behind ChatGPT has now announced that ChatGPT will also now support images and audio (in the form of voice notes) within WhatsApp. Here’s how this will work.
ChatGPT on WhatsApp gets image and voice note support
While chatting with ChatGPT still works, you can now also throw in an image, just like you would send to a friend or family member, and ChatGPT is able to respond to a corresponding prompt.

There are many ways to use this. If you see a dog breed that you want to know more about, snap a picture and let ChatGPT answer your queries. If there’s an online meme you want to understand, you can take a screenshot and have ChatGPT explain it to you. Foreign language on food packets or signboards can also be converted with ease.
Then, there is also voice note support, which lets you create a voice note right in the ChatGPT app and send it over as an input prompt. ChatGPT will automatically transcribe your voice and respond to your queries.
How to use ChatGPT on WhatsApp
For those who still don’t have ChatGPT on their WhatsApp app, here’s a quick and simple guide to set it up.
Step 1: Open your phone’s default Dialer app and type in the following number “+1 800 242 8478”
Step 2: Save this number as a new contact and call it ‘ChatGPT’.
Step 3: Go to WhatsApp and begin a new chat with the recently saved contacts. You should now be ready to talk with ChatGPT. The account should also show the blue verified checkmark.
You can now start conversing with ChatGPT. Any message you type will be treated like a prompt, and any responses will be a message from the other end.
