DJI’s Osmo Nano is a tiny action camera you can clip on anywhere

DJI has just launched its Osmo Nano, a tiny new wearable action camera you can basically clip on anywhere. It uses a clever two-part design. You get a camera module that weighs a featherlight 52 grams and a separate 72-gram Multifunctional Vision Dock.

A clever two-part design

The DJI Osmo Nano has been designed such that it can be mounted anywhere using a system of magnetic clips and straps for your hat, chest, or even a car. The main camera is properly waterproof down to 10 metres, though its companion dock is only splash-resistant with its IPX4 rating.

Despite its size, the camera packs some serious imaging hardware. It’s built around a new 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor that boasts an impressive 13.5 stops of dynamic range, delivering balanced highlights and shadows. This sensor lets the Nano shoot crisp 4K video at up to 60fps, with a 4K/120fps slow-motion mode for dramatic captures.

Pro creators will also appreciate the 10-bit D-Log M colour profile, which offers massive flexibility in post-production. As for stabilisation, footage is kept super smooth by DJI’s RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonBalancing technologies.

The Vision Dock is the camera’s brain. It functions as a wireless remote and a bright 1.96-inch OLED touchscreen for monitoring your shots. It also acts as a fast-charging station, juicing the camera to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. The camera itself has a 520mAh battery, while the dock adds a much larger 1300mAh cell. Together, they can power up to 200 minutes of 1080p recording.

You can grab the Osmo Nano with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, and the dock adds a microSD slot for expansion. The standard 64GB combo, which includes a handful of magnetic mounts, is priced at $299 (~Rs 26,540) while the 128GB version will set you back $329 (~Rs 29,200).

There’s no indication of an Indian availability just yet, but considering this is a global launch, it may be in the cards.
