If you’ve ever tried to get through a dense report or prep for a meeting while on the move, you know how limiting mobile productivity can be. That’s about to change. Google is now rolling out Gemini support for the Google Docs app on Android devices, bringing AI-powered summarisation, Q&A, and brainstorming capabilities to your phone, in more than 20 languages.
It adds to Gemini’s functionality
So instead of scrolling through pages of a document while commuting, you can now tap the spark icon in Docs and ask something like, “Summarise this proposal,” or “What’s the marketing budget breakdown for Q3?” and get a quick, clear response, right within the app. No need to switch tools, copy text, or hunt for details.

It’s a thoughtful extension of Gemini’s core strengths, understanding long-form content, surfacing key insights, and supporting lightweight creation. That means you can capture the momentum of a brainstorming session by prompting Gemini to draft a launch plan on the spot, or prep for a stakeholder call with a document summary while waiting for coffee.
While some features like Help me write, Help me create, and image generation aren’t available on mobile just yet, core functions like summarisation, question-answering, and writing support are ready to go for Android phones and tablets running Android 8 or higher.
Available to users on select Google Workspace and Gemini Education plans, Gemini in Docs for Android will start rolling out gradually to Rapid Release domains beginning June 9, with broader availability for Scheduled Release domains from July 2.
Altogether, this move brings the power of generative AI closer to where people actually work, on the go. Whether you’re in a cab, at the airport, or between meetings, Gemini now goes with you.
