Google confirms Android laptops and desktops are finally happening

Google has just confirmed what many suspected; Android is about to graduate from the small screen. At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit 2025, Rick Osterloh, Google’s SVP of Devices and Services, stood alongside Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon to announce that Android will soon power laptops and desktops.

Google is betting big on reshaping how we think about personal computers. And it’s doing it with a little help from Snapdragon’s AI-driven silicon.

A unified Android for everything

Until now, Google kept things neatly separated. Android on your phone, Chrome OS on your Chromebook. But the future is a fusion. Google and Qualcomm are working on a single platform that brings Android into the PC space, complete with Gemini AI, Google Assistant, and the rest of the Google app universe baked in.

The first wave of Snapdragon-powered Android laptops will likely mirror Chromebooks in their affordability, but with a more mobile-first DNA. The Pixel laptop dream

Speculation is already brewing about whether Google might finally launch a Pixel-branded Android laptop. Osterloh hasn’t confirmed anything concrete, but the move feels inevitable. A Pixel laptop could become the showpiece for Google’s vision of Android everywhere; seamlessly syncing your phone, PC, and maybe even that tablet gathering dust in your drawer.

No official launch date has been revealed, but the tone at Snapdragon Summit made Android isn’t staying in your pocket anymore. The lines between phone, tablet, and PC are about to blur, and Google wants to be the one holding the marker.
