Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 is being developed without using generative AI. The company confirmed the upcoming game is being handcrafted by its development teams, and generative AI has zero part in what it’s making. Here’s everything you need to know.
No use of AI in making GTA 6
According to Rockstar and parent company Take Two, GTA 6 is being built through manual development processes. The studio says environments, locations, and game world elements are being created by developers instead of AI tools.
“Specifically with regards to GTA 6, generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building. Their worlds are handcrafted. That’s what differentiates them.
They’re built from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighbourhood by neighbourhood. They’re not procedurally generated; they shouldn’t be. That’s what makes great entertainment,” he added.
The company believes human creativity is central to the Grand Theft Auto experience. This includes storytelling, world-building, and mission design. Rockstar says this approach helps maintain the level of detail and realism the franchise is known for.
