Oakley Meta Vanguard AI smart glasses are built for athletes; have launched in India

Oakley and Meta have expanded their smart eyewear ambitions in India with the launch of the Oakley Meta Vanguard. Positioned as performance-first smart glasses, the new range blends Oakley’s sports eyewear DNA with Meta’s AI features, hands-free controls and fitness integrations, targeting athletes and outdoor users rather than casual wearers.

The pitch is simple. These are glasses designed to be worn mid-run, mid-ride or mid-workout, without feeling like fragile tech strapped to your face. Here’s everything you need to know about Meta and Oakley’s smart AI glasses.

Built for training, not just tech demos

The Vanguard frames come with an IP67 rating, meaning they are dustproof and water-resistant enough to survive sweat, rain and the occasional rinse. Oakley’s Three-Point Fit system keeps the glasses stable during high-intensity movement, while three interchangeable nose pads cater to different face shapes and bridge heights.

Lens duties are handled by Oakley’s PRIZM technology, tuned to enhance contrast and colour depending on the sport or environment. The wraparound design also adds protection from wind, glare and debris, which matters when these are meant to stay on your face during actual training sessions.

AI, fitness data and hands-free capture

Meta’s AI assistant sits at the centre of the experience, accessible through voice commands. Athletes can pull up workout data, control recording or manage audio without reaching for a phone or watch. The system integrates with Garmin and other fitness platforms, allowing users to check metrics like pace and heart rate on the move.

A subtle LED indicator in the wearer’s peripheral vision offers real-time cues during workouts, while post-session summaries live inside the Meta AI app.

For content capture, the glasses pack a 12MP front-facing camera with a 122-degree field of view, capable of recording up to 3K video. Slow-motion, hyperlapse, and stabilised modes are included, all triggerable hands-free. Open-ear speakers are built into the frame for audio playback while staying aware of surroundings, and a five-microphone array is designed to keep wind noise in check during calls or voice commands.

Battery life is rated at up to nine hours of general use or six hours of continuous audio. The bundled charging case extends total usage to around 36 hours, with a quick-charge feature delivering roughly half a charge in 20 minutes.
