Perplexity AI’s new smartphone assistant app is here to challenge Siri, ChatGPT

AI assistants have slowly begun taking charge of our routine work. From Samsung’s Galaxy AI which recently made the news to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which finds itself constantly evolving, artificial intelligence has scaled new heights in the past couple of years.

And if that’s not nearly enough, Perplexity AI, too, has joined forces this year by introducing its very own Android smartphone assistant that will leave users spoiled for choice. Here’s what you need to know about the new Perplexity AI smartphone assistant app.

Perplexity Assistant: What it is and what it can do

The AI startup mentioned how Perplexity will no longer be an ‘answer engine’ and will function as a full-fledged AI assistant for Android users. The company also states how it will now be able to do everything from answering questions to performing smaller tasks. These will include writing an email, setting reminders or simply having conversations.

Apart from that, the assistant will also be multimodal, meaning you will also be able to ask it questions about what you see on your screen. If that’s not all, it will even allow you to open the camera app on your smartphone to observe all that in front of you.

For instance, if you ask the AI assistant for restaurant suggestions, Perplexity will be able to look up and reserve a table for you at a place of your choice. Moreover, you can even ask the chatbot to “get you a ride” to book an Uber for you.

That said, the app is still fixing loose ends with other smartphone apps and might take a while smoothening them out.

Who can use Perplexity Assistant?

For now, only Android smartphone users can make the most of the Perplexity Assistant. The app is available and can be downloaded via Google Play Store. The app makers haven’t mentioned if they plan to make it available for iPhones; however, it may not be too far from reality.
