Snapchat now lets you make AI avatars of your pets, for a fee

Animated avatars have taken instant communication apps by storm for years now, but it is only recently that a focus on pet animals has (literally) come into the picture. Last year, we saw the iPhone 15 series support automatic portrait shots for dogs and cats. Now, Snapchat, one of the world’s most popular communication/social media apps has added another cool addition to appeal to pet owners.

With AI-powered pet Bitmojis, owners can use Snapchat to create animated avatars of their pets on their smartphones, which can then be used to give your avatar some company in the Snap Map screen. The avatars work just like how Snapchat’s human avatars do.

Creating an avatar for your pet is easy and involves taking a picture, but those looking to outfit their pugs and labs with up-to-date fashion should expect lesser customisation options, unlike human Bitmojis.

Only for Snapchat+ subscribers

There is a catch for the feature though, because it is available only to paying Snapchat+ users. Anyone not subscribed will not be able to turn the cat into an animated avatar. The good news is that the update which brings this feature is being rolled out to all Snapchat+ users at once, including iPhones and Android phones. If you’re a premium customer, all you need to do is get the latest update.

How to create an AI Bitmoji of your pet on Snapchat?

Begin with making sure your Snapchat+ subscription is active. If it is, you can head to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to make sure you’re updated, and running the latest version of Snapchat.

Next, head to the Snap Map screen, and tap on your own avatar. Next, tap on the ‘Accessorise your look’ section and head to the premium customisation section.

Here, follow on-screen instructions and take a picture of your pet. You will then be able to choose from a few AI-generated options and depending on how you want your pet avatar to look, you can choose on of them.
