From the company that made vacuums a flex comes a device that barely looks like one. The new Dyson PencilVac is impossibly slim at just 1.5 inches across, and yet manages to house a motor, dust bin, and controls within the pencil-thin handle. It’s lighter than your average handbag, sleeker than most floor lamps, and glides across surfaces like it’s weightless.
In a category where ‘innovation’ usually means a new attachment or stronger suction, this is a true design detour, and it might just be the most elegant cleaning tool Dyson has ever made. Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know about the new Dyson PencilVac.
The vacuum gets a makeover with the Dyson PencilVac
The PencilVac’s most impressive feature is its silhouette. Measuring just 1.5 inches in diameter and weighing only 1.8kg, it stands as Dyson’s slimmest and lightest cordless vacuum to date.
To make that possible, Dyson developed an entirely new motor – the Hyperdymium 140k – which is compact enough to fit inside the handle. Despite being smaller than a golf ball, it still delivers enough power for daily cleanups.

In line with its minimalist design, the PencilVac doesn’t have a visible dust bin. Instead, a tiny 0.08L compartment is tucked into the handle, paired with a clever dust compression system that compacts debris to maximise capacity. Emptying it is a surprisingly satisfying process, thanks to a syringe-style ejection mechanism that also wipes the internal shroud clean as it dispenses the contents.
The cleaner head is no less unconventional. It ditches the usual tube-shaped rollers for four conical “Fluffycones” designed to funnel long hair away from the brush and into the bin. These cones rotate in opposite directions, allowing the PencilVac to clean just as effectively when pulled back as when pushed forward – a marked improvement over previous Fluffy heads.
Both ends of the floorhead are equipped with laser-style lights that illuminate fine dust particles on hard floors, casting shadows that make even the tiniest debris visible. The head also lies almost flat, making it easy to clean under low furniture without adjusting your grip or posture.
Dyson has also introduced a rotating crevice tool, designed to tackle high corners and awkward gaps, along with the familiar conical hair screw tool for removing hair from upholstery. Both accessories can be stored neatly on the included magnetic charging dock, which keeps the setup compact and tidy.
And yes, the PencilVac connects to the MyDyson app. It’s not overly reliant on the smart features, but the app does provide useful insights into battery life and filter status. If you’d rather keep things simple, the vacuum itself includes a built-in screen that displays key information at a glance.
Dyson PencilVac pricing and availability
The PencilVac launches in Australia this August, with a UK release scheduled for 2026. Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, and there’s no confirmation on a US or global release, but knowing Dyson, this won’t land in budget territory.
Still, if you’ve ever dreamed of a vacuum that looks like modern sculpture and moves like it’s floating on air, the PencilVac might just be worth the splurge.
