Truecaller brings AI-based message IDs; here’s what you should know

Truecaller has been deploying artificial intelligence across its daily features, making it a comprehensive app that easily battles spam and malicious callers. From having an AI-based auto-block tool to bringing in a business ID, the smartphone app has consistently been upgrading itself to meet the growing needs of users today.

In more recent news, Truecaller has announced a message ID feature powered by AI for users to identify their communication better. If you’re wondering how this works, we have everything you need to know below. Check it out:

Truecaller introduces AI-based message ID feature: What's there to know?

The company, in an official announcement, mentioned how it will use Large Language Models (LLMs) to scan an SMS inbox on your device. This will further help users identify crucial business messages. To begin with, the model will go through your inbox and scan through the bulk of your conversations. This includes your bank OTPs, upcoming flights, and payment reminders, among others.

Then, it will summarise the key pointers from this message to highlight everything you need to know. This is aimed at helping users take action accordingly. For this feature to function seamlessly, users will have to grant the app two crucial permissions; these include: Read SMS and Display Over Apps. Once this is done, the platform will display your communication in the form of a banner over other apps.

Truecaller AI-powered message ID feature: Availability

Truecaller has already launched the feature across 30 countries, including India. What’s more, it also isn’t restricted to conversations based in English. The company mentions how it can work seamlessly across different languages, be it Hindi, Swahili or Spanish.

Apart from the above, Truecaller has additionally rolled out Green Message IDs, which signify when a message is sent via a verified source or business. And if that’s not nearly enough, the message and call ID app mentions how these features are available for both free and Premium users.

Although helpful, Truecaller’s new feature does raise valid privacy concerns — none of which are currently addressed by the smartphone app company. Despite this, message identification does seem to be the need of the hour. What do you think about the feature? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
