WhatsApp introduces Advanced Chat Privacy features; here’s what this means for you

WhatsApp has gone on to replace our regular messaging apps and hasn’t stopped at that. Today, the Meta-owned platform can do a lot more than simply text. From having a built-in document scanner to allowing users to pay their contacts, the all-in-one smartphone app has come a long way today.

However, having all this information on the app reinforces the need for privacy. WhatsApp began with end-to-end encryption and gradually moved on to disappearing messages and chat locks. But this time around, the popular IM app has introduced ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’ features for its users. Here’s what they are and what they can do for you.

WhatsApp Advanced Chat Privacy features: What's there to know?

WhatsApp, via an official blog post, announced the launch of Advanced Chat Privacy features that are designed to secure sensitive information shared on the app. The post stated that the new features will be available for both individual as well as group chats, to add an extra layer of privacy and prevent people from sharing content outside the app.

Once switched on, the functionality also lets users block others from exporting their chats. Apart from this, users may even restrict the use of messages with AI features (which means tagging or mentioning Meta AI in the conversation).

WhatsApp mentions how these features were set to reassure users and make sure their conversation is not shared beyond their chat. Moreover, it also states that it is especially helpful for group chats that share sensitive information with several unknown participants.

How to enable advanced chat privacy on WhatsApp

The blog post, in conclusion, mentions that the features will be rolling out with the latest WhatsApp update. If you haven’t received it yet, you might have to be patient, as the brand seems to be rolling it out in a phased manner.

Once updated, all users need to do is tap on the chat name and select Advanced Chat Privacy to switch it on. The company has confirmed several other iterations coming to the feature and has ensured that more protective measures are coming to the platform in the future.
