Amazfit Active Max smartwatch announced with 25-day battery claim

That strange week between Christmas and the new year is coming to its end and this is a very popular time for pre-CES announcements. Amazfit just dropped the Active Max, a rugged-ish smartwatch that costs $169 (roughly Rs 15,190) and claims to last nearly a month on a single charge.

The headline feature here is absolutely the endurance. Amazfit packed a massive 658 mAh battery inside, and they claim this can push through 25 days of typical usage. Even if you leave the always-on display running, you are still looking at around 10 days, which is higher than competition.

Targets endurance athletes, except without the heavy price tag

You are viewing all this data on a 1.5-inch AMOLED screen that hits 3,000 nits, meaning it should be totally readable even when the sun is glaring directly at it.

We usually expect serious compromises at $169, but the build quality seems surprisingly solid. It uses an aluminium alloy and plastic casing that weighs roughly 35 grams, so it will not feel like a brick on your wrist during a long run.

Speaking of running, the software tracks over 160 different sports and introduces something called BioCharge. Think of this as an energy meter that looks at your sleep and stress to tell you if you are ready to train hard.

Moreover, since the watch runs on Zepp OS rather than Wear OS or watchOS, it plays nicely with both Android phones and iPhones. But you do get some of the proper smartwatch features — like there is 4GB of storage for offline music, Bluetooth calling, and proper offline maps for navigation.

That said, we need to see if those battery claims hold up in the real world. But on paper, this looks like a very strong option for runners on a budget. The Active Max is available as of December 30 globally and while there’s no official word on an Indian launch, it’s expected to be soon.
