Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone is once again in the news, and this time reports suggest it may rely only on eSIM. According to the latest update, the device is expected to follow the same direction as the existing iPhone Air, which is e-SIM only. Here’s all we need to know.
All about the foldable iPhone
According to a report from China, Apple’s foldable iPhone will not have space for a traditional SIM tray due to its slim design. The hinge, display layers, and internal structure leave little room for extra modules, making eSIM a better option.
Apple has already taken this path in several regions with recent iPhone models, and the existing iPhone Air comes in only an e-SIM option. Having said that, Apple will most likely offer an e-SIM-only option to keep the chassis slim.
The move would also help reduce moving parts and keep the phone lightweight. But for users in markets where eSIM adoption is still limited, this could be a noticeable shift.
Apart from this, an older report suggested that Apple may use Titanium for the build rather than aluminium. Rumours suggest that the foldable iPhone may feature a large 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. However, these specs are yet to be verified.

Further, the device will likely use Apple’s yet-to-launch A20 Pro chipset. It could be a TSMC-made 2nm SoC offering powerful performance while remaining efficient. On the camera front, it may boast a 24MP under-display camera.
The iPhone foldable is expected to launch next year, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. Apple has yet to confirm any of the phone’s details, however, so do take the above information with a pinch of salt.
