Roughly two weeks remain before the next iPhone series drops alongside other rumoured products. Apple has dubbed the event “Awe dropping” and it’s set to unfold on September 9, as leaks previously had already revealed.
New iPhones, new Apple Watches, and possibly new AirPods
Four new iPhones are set to drop with significant design tweaks, combined with a reshuffle in the lineup. The iPhone 16 Plus could be the last Plus model as it will be replaced by an ambitious iPhone ‘Air’ .
This new device is rumored to be approximately 5.5 mm thick, which would make it the thinnest iPhone ever made. It’s also expected to shrink in size a bit compared to the Plus, while also being the lightest among the new four.
The next base iPhone is expected to mostly recycle the iPhone 16’s design, though it could size up a little. Rumours suggest its screen could grow to 6.3-inches, up from the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inches.
Physical changes appear limited to the Pro models, with production leaks possibly marking a return of aluminum. It’s set to be quite the comeback, as the metal will find its way into the back of the phone too – and not just the frame on the sides.
This might get you scratching your head about the wireless charging capabilities. Thankfully, the Pro iPhones are expected to feature a glass window on the back for you to snap the MagSafe charger on. This glass window could seamlessly transition to aluminum.
“Awe dropping” could also unveil more than one new Apple Watch, specifically the next-gen Apple Watch and Watch Ultra. These may be accompanied by an all-new AirPods Pro model. An update was long overdue considering the previous iteration dropped way back in September 2022.
The event will air on September 9 at 10am PT (10:30 pm IST) and you can stream it from apple dot com, the Apple TV app, and YouTube.
