DJI, the undisputed ruler of the skies, is now making a calculated descent, right into your living room. The company best known for drones and stabilisers is set to launch its first-ever robot vacuum cleaner, the DJI Romo, on August 6 at 8 PM (Beijing time). The reveal, teased on DJI’s official Weibo with the tagline ‘Unmatched Power’, suggests this is DJI staking a serious claim in the premium home-tech arena. Here’s all we know about the DJI Romo so far.
The DJI Romo is not your average floor dweller
DJI’s been quietly working on Romo for over four years. That’s an unusually long dev cycle for a robot vacuum, and it signals intent. This is a calculated cross-pollination of the company’s deep expertise in vision systems, real-time obstacle detection, and smart navigation. And from the looks of it, DJI isn’t going after the budget Roombas of the world. Romo is gunning straight for Roborock, Ecovacs, and Dreame; brands that play at the high end of the market.
Design-wise, Romo sticks to the classic circular, low-profile silhouette, but with DJI’s signature precision baked in. Its front-facing sensors hint at a robust vision-based mapping system, while the dual side brushes and central suction path are familiar territory, likely tuned to perfection by DJI’s engineering teams.
Where Romo really starts flexing is with its docking station setup, because why settle for one when you can have two? The first dock is a transparent, tech-showcase-style base that gives you a peek into the guts of the machine, such as visible dust compartments, water tanks (clean and dirty), and possibly mop maintenance systems.

The second dock is the minimalist’s dream – white, soft-edged, understated, and designed to quietly disappear into your modern home. Both docks suggest features like auto dustbin emptying and self-cleaning mop systems, though it’s still unclear whether the mop has a built-in water tank or needs manual refills.
Romo is part of a broader playbook shift at DJI. While the brand continues to launch industrial-grade gear like the Agras T100 (agriculture) and FlyCart 100 (logistics), Romo represents DJI’s first true foray into the consumer smart home.
And it makes sense. DJI’s chops in automation, machine vision, and sensor tech give it a natural advantage in building home devices that are more aware, efficient, and dare we say, over-engineered. For more updates about the latest in tech, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma.
