At the time of filing this copy, there aren’t many details available on what Google has planned for I/O 2025. However, like every year, the search giant is expected to share updates and announcements for both developers and consumers.

Android 16 is likely to take centerstage at I/O this year. For those unaware, the software is already in the beta phase, with next beta version expected to arrive soon. This time around, Google is moving at a faster pace, which means we may see a stable release at I/O itself in May.

Additionally, Google may also make announcements around Wear OS 6, giving compatible wearables a new set of features and changes. Further, if you have seen any of I/O announcements in the past, you’d know that the event won’t go ahead without Pichai talking about AI. So, this year as well, the event could be AI-heavy with potential AI updates throughout Google’s products and services.

There’s also Gemini that Google may talk a lot about this time, like last year. Google recently rolled out Gemini 2.0 to the public, and we are expected to hear some more advancements about it at I/O 2025.

Apart from this, Google may also highlight Android XR, an operating system for extended reality headsets, which is currently codenamed Project Moohan. Google has partnered with Samsung and Qualcomm for the same.

We don’t expect Google to drop a new Pixel device at the event, as the Google Pixel 9a is expected to launch as early as March this year. But you never know, there might still be some other hardware that we may see at the event.

That’s all that is expected to be announced at Google I/O 2025. If you are an Android user or simply follow Google, do let us know what you are most excited about.
