Google Maps is getting a fresh AI boost, weeks after it received the conversational Ask Maps feature. The new AI features are Gemini-powered captions and faster sharing, both aiming at making your contributions on Maps easier.
Everything new in this Google Maps update
The biggest update out of the two is Gemini-powered captions. When you upload a photo or video on Google Maps, Gemini can now automatically generate a caption based on what it sees.
It analyses the content and suggests a relevant description, saving you the effort of typing everything manually. You still have full control though, so you can edit or delete the caption before posting.
Google is also improving how quickly you can share photos and videos. The upload process is now faster, which means less waiting and more posting, pretty useful when you are adding multiple images at once.
Another useful addition is better contribution tracking. Users can now keep a closer eye on their uploads, reviews, and edits, making it easier to understand their activity and impact on the platform. Overall, this Maps update is aimed at making the platform more community-driven.
It’s worth noting that these features are rolling out gradually. Gemini-powered captions will initially be available in English, with wider availability expected soon across platforms.
