Google to integrate Photos with Gemini; here’s what this means

Ever since its inception, Google’s Gemini has been expanding, and gaining even more features, as well as abilities, to make artificial intelligence omnipresent across its services. In fact, the AI assistant today ties various Google apps together, including Calendar, Drive, Docs, Maps, and YouTube, among others.

However, only recently, the brand has announced its integration with yet another essential Google app: Photos. Wondering how things change for you with this move? Read on to find out.

Google integrates Gemini with Photos: What's there to know?

The new version of Google Photos (with Gemini integration), which was spotted by 9to5Google last month, talks about two major components. The first of these components will allow a user to look through backed-up images to search for specific faces, dates and locations.

Apart from this, it now replies to response-specific prompts, such as ‘show most recent selfies’ or ‘find photos of landscapes’.

The second feature, on the other hand, gives you a more AI-driven experience on Photos. You can simply search “Where did I have that great hot chocolate in Sweden?” or “Give me the registration details of the cab we took in Pune”. On doing this, you will find a ‘Show More’ button which should further reveal more details.

How will this feature work, and when will it be available to everyone?

To enable this AI feature on your Google Photos smartphone app, all you have to do is go to the Gemini app and tap on the top right corner, on your profile photo. Within this, you should find Apps. Scroll to Media and locate Google Photos. It should appear alongside other apps, such as Spotify, YouTube and YouTube Music.

For now, Google seems to be ‘gradually rolling out’ this feature to its Android users based out of the USA. However, the feature should be making its way to other regions shortly after. You can always keep yourself updated by subscribing to Unboxed by Croma for the latest news, tips and tricks.
