Google’s screenless fitness tracker spotted in a teaser video

Google is reportedly working on a fitness band with a screenless design. It will compete against the likes of Whoop 5.0 and Amazfit Helio Strap. Steph Curry, Google’s Performance Advisor for Health products shared a short teaser subtly hinting at the search giant’s upcoming product. This development closely ties to the company’s Fitbit acquisition in 2021, with Google steadily integrating Fitbit’s health tracking expertise into its smartwatch ecosystem.

Eagle-eyed viewers were quick to notice a fitness band without any screens in the post shared by Steph Curry. The strap has a fabric material and is seen in light gray colour with orange on the sides along with a clasp mechanism. The clip also teases the product as coming soon with text that says ‘a new relationship with your health’ and a gradient Google logo.

In a separate report, Bloomberg says that Google’s screenless fitness band could come with basic tracking features. Advanced tracking metrics would require a Fitbit Premium subscription. The upcoming offering will also be tied to the Gemini-powered Fitbit Personal Health Coach preview that was introduced last year. This positions Google’s wearable the same as Whoop that charges separately for hardware and membership. The fitness band could reportedly come with a significant battery life compared to smartwatches.

Google is yet to share an official word on the wearable device. We can expect some announcement at the company’s annual I/O Developer conference next month with a official release later this year.
