Historically, GTA 6 was already expected to be the most expensive game ever made. There has been no shortage of leaks and rumours surrounding the game’s details. Rockstar, the developer behind GTA 6 started working on the game way back in 2019. That’s almost six years and this has resulted in to massive development costs if the latest leak is anything to go by.
GTA 6’s development budget will leave you in shock
A Reddit user on r/GTA 6 subreddit shared Rockstar’s public-facing financial documents filed on a UK government website. Over the years from 2019 to 2025, Rockstar has likely spent $3 billion on total staff costs alone including wages, salaries, and more. This also factors in multiple Rockstar studios across the world contributing to GTA 6 along with years in development and thousands of employees.
The extended release timeline also plays a major role here. Development is reportedly said to have begun in 2019. Add to that the delays pushing the game’s launch to 2026 has led to the cost of salaries, tools, and infrastructure continue to climb.

The $3 billion figure is just towards staff costs. The estimate also includes Rockstar North’s expenses against ongoing support for GTA Online and other projects. Fans and gamers have been eagerly waiting for the GTA 6. This means that the massive marketing campaign that’s about to happen is further expected to push the game’s overall budget to $4 to $5 billion. If this indeed turns out to be true, it will redefine economics of blockbuster entertainment.
Development budget aside, GTA 6 is set to be the most ambitious game ever made, justifying the massive investment and a probably higher launch price tag with features cutting-edge graphics, long-term post launch support, sprawling open world, etc.
GTA 6 is slated to launch on November 19 barring no further delays and will be available first on consoles.
