Smart cooling meets design-led intelligence

Haier’s Gravity AI air conditioners bring predictive cooling to Indian homes

Air conditioners have traditionally been reactive machines. You walk into a hot room, reach for the remote, and wait for the cooling to kick off. At the launch of its new Gravity AI AC series, Haier made it clear it wants to break that rhythm entirely.

Unveiled at the brand’s AI for Air event, the Gravity AI Series is Haier’s most premium and AI-integrated air conditioner lineup to date, powered by its proprietary AI-AtmoX platform. The focus is not just on smarter cooling, but on cooling that fades into the background of everyday life.

As NS Satish, President, Haier Appliances India, told Unboxed by Croma during the launch, “We are not in the business of selling air conditioners. We are in the business of keeping customers comfortable. That is the lens through which we look at everything.”

Cooling that starts before you ask for it

Viewed through that lens, comfort becomes less about temperature settings and more about timing. One of the most noticeable shifts for users is AI Pre-Cooling. Using a 100-metre geofence, the Gravity AI Series senses when the user is approaching home and starts cooling automatically.

“The moment you enter a hundred-metre radius, the system understands that you are about to reach home,” Satish said. “By the time you unlock the door and walk in, the room is already cool.”

From there, the AC begins to learn. Over a seven-day period, the system studies how users interact with their air conditioner, by learning things like preferred temperatures, changes through the day, swing directions, and usage duration. Once AI mode is activated, the AC begins to replicate those habits automatically.

The system also responds to movement. Cooling adjusts based on where occupants are seated and reduces output when no one is in the room, avoiding unnecessary energy use without requiring manual input.

The ACs also come with AI Climate Control 2.0 and the AI-AtmoX Power Manager. Energy consumption is optimised in real time through multi-level AI Eco modes, while electricity usage is translated into readable insights on the app with graphical tracking, mode-wise breakdowns, real-time cost display, and auto-updated monthly expenses.

Rethinking maintenance, indoors and outdoors

Maintenance, long one of the most inconvenient aspects of AC ownership, is another area Haier is aiming to simplify. “An air conditioner is constantly pulling in air, and over time, dust builds up inside,” Satish adds. “Traditionally, you have to call a service engineer to deal with that.”

With the Gravity AI Series, the indoor unit runs an AI Frost Self-Clean cycle automatically every 240 hours, completing a deep clean in about 20 minutes. More notably, Haier has introduced what it claims is India’s first fully automatic outdoor unit cleaning system.

“Most customers do not even know where the outdoor unit is,” Satish noted. “So we made sure it cleans itself automatically every day, the moment you switch off the AC.”

Using reverse airflow, the outdoor unit clears dust from the condenser coils just seconds after shutdown, helping maintain efficiency without manual intervention. Annual professional servicing is still recommended, but everyday maintenance becomes largely invisible.

Standout design and the premiumisation era

While the intelligence is designed to disappear, the design is meant to be noticed. The Gravity AI Series is available in four gorgeous finishes (Morning Mist, Moonstone Grey, Midnight Dream, and White) moving away from the standard white-box aesthetic that has defined air conditioners for decades.

Satish told us that consumer research revealed a growing desire for appliances that complement modern interiors rather than interrupt them. The Gravity AI Series features textured, fabric-inspired finishes that required significant material innovation to execute at scale.

“People are spending more on their interiors today,” Satish added. “They want appliances that look like they belong in the space.”

The launch also reflects Haier’s broader ambitions in India’s rapidly premiumising AC market. Alongside the Gravity AI Series, the company highlighted the expansion of its Greater Noida manufacturing ecosystem, including Phase 2 of its AC plant and a new Injection Molding facility.

With an additional 2.5 million units of annual capacity planned, Haier expects total AC production to grow from 1.5 million units to 4 million units by 2027. The brand currently holds an 8 per cent share of the Indian AC market and is targeting 17 per cent by 2030.

The Gravity AI Series starts at Rs 49,990, placing it firmly in the premium segment. According to Satish, consumer readiness is no longer the concern.

“The younger generation entering the market prioritises comfort and convenience,” he said. “Earlier, savings came first and comfort came later. That order has changed.”
