Ultra-thin phones like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and Apple’s iPhone Air are designed for users who prioritise sleek looks, lightweight feel, and pocket-friendly ergonomics. These devices offer a premium aesthetic but often compromise on hardware, such as fewer cameras, smaller batteries, and sometimes lower performance headroom.
Huawei though takes a completely different approach to the “ultra-thin phone” category with the unveiling of its Mate 70 Air. Instead of sacrificing features, it packs a large display, a big battery, and multiple cameras, all while maintaining an impressively slim profile. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Huawei Mate 70 Air.
Huawei Mate 70 Air: Specifications and features
Starting with its build, the Huawei Mate 70 Air has a slim profile of 6.6mm and features a 7-inch OLED screen with a quad-curved design. It offers a 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. It runs on Harmony OS 5.1, which offers seamless connectivity with ecosystem devices.
The Mate 70 Air’s 12GB RAM variant is powered by the Kirin 9020A chipset, whereas the more powerful variant has the Kirin 9020B SoC equipped with 16GB of RAM. It features a 6,500mAh battery with 66W fast charging, resulting in a weight of around 208 grams.
Moving on to the camera department, the Mate 70 Air has a 10.7MP front camera, while its back panel houses a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS support. There’s also a multispectral red-maple colour sensor for natural colour reproduction, especially reds and complex tones.
The Mate 70 Air features Kunlun glass protection for the display and an IP68/69 rating for dust and water resistance. Other features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, two-way satellite connectivity, dual speakers, and a side-facing fingerprint sensor.
Huawei Mate 70 Air: Price and availability
At present, it is uncertain whether the Huawei Mate 70 Air will arrive in markets outside China, where it has just launched. In its home market, it comes in two chipset variants. The Kirin 9020A edition, available in configurations like 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB, is priced at CNY 4,199 (approximately Rs 52,200), and CNY 4,699 (approximately Rs 58,400) respectively.
