Instagram adds Diwali-themed filters and effects for Reels and Stories

Diwali’s nearly here, and Instagram wants your feed to shine brighter than ever. Just in time for the festive season, the platform has dropped limited-edition Diwali effects across Stories and the Edits app, letting you add a glow-up to your stories and reels with a touch of Meta AI magic.

Think of it as your creative toolkit for festive storytelling. Here’s a quick guide on how you can add some Diwali sparkle to your Instagram content.

Instagram’s new Restyle feature now includes Diwali-themed effects inspired by the festival’s vibrant palette. Think fireworks bursting against night skies, marigold garlands draped across frames, and the warm flicker of diyas. It’s all just a click away.

Whether you’re filming a festive outfit reveal or capturing your home’s Diwali décor, these effects let you transform everyday clips into cinematic celebrations.

The effects include:
– Fireworks, Diyas, and Rangoli (for images)
– Lanterns, Marigold, and Rangoli (for videos)

These festive effects are available for just two weeks (until October 29) across India, and a few other countries like the US, Canada, Singapore, and Australia.

How to restyle your videos in Edits

If Reels are your medium of choice, the Edits app has you covered. The Diwali Restyle effects here bring the cinematic glow straight to your timeline. To add Diwali flavour to your reels, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the Edits app and tap the “+” under Projects to start a new one
Step 2: Select your video from Reels, Camera, or Gallery
Step 3: Once it’s in your timeline, tap the clip
Step 4: Scroll through the bottom icons and hit Restyle
Step 5: Tap the Diwali header and choose from Lanterns, Marigold, or Rangoli
Step 6: When you’re happy with the transformation, click Export, and post your reel to spread the glow

How to restyle your stories

Want your Stories to shimmer like Diwali sparklers? Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Tap the “+” on your profile picture or swipe left to open Stories
Step 2: Pick a photo or video from your camera roll

Step 5: Choose your vibe: Fireworks, Rangoli, or Diyas
