If there’s one gripe iPhone users never tire of repeating, it’s this: “Why doesn’t the battery last longer?” Apple might finally have an answer, and it’s courtesy of artificial intelligence.
According to a Bloomberg report, the company is prepping an AI-based battery management feature as part of its upcoming iOS 19 update, which will be announced at WWDC 2025.
The idea is to let Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI platform, study how you use your iPhone and then quietly optimise your battery usage in the background.
What’s exactly this feature offering with iOS 19?
This feature aims to improve battery efficiency by analysing user habits and adjusting power usage accordingly. The AI tool will observe how individuals interact with their devices, making real-time adjustments to power-hungry apps and features to extend battery life.

For instance, if you tend to leave certain apps running in the background, the system might automatically cut their power draw to preserve energy. A new lock-screen indicator will also show how much time is left before your device is fully charged, making it easier to plan your day around charging needs.
The driving force behind this new feature is Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which, as per the reports floating across the internet, will be slimmer and sport a smaller battery due to its compact design.
While this new model will have fewer hours of battery life compared to the standard and Pro versions, AI-powered optimisation is set to compensate for these physical constraints. That said, this rumoured battery management feature is expected to be available to all iPhones running iOS 19, regardless of the model.
Apple’s AI ambitions don’t stop here. The company is also bent on integrating more AI-driven tools into its ecosystem, from text editing to image enhancement. Despite a rocky start for the Apple Intelligence platform, this new feature would mark a significant leap toward optimising everyday user experiences.
For those who’ve experienced the dreaded 20 per cent battery warning in the middle of a workday, Apple’s AI-driven solution might just be the lifesaver we’ve all been waiting for.
