JioHotstar finally rolls out monthly subscription plans for all tiers

JioHotstar is shaking up its subscription model. Starting January 28, the service will offer monthly plans across all three of its tiers for the first time. That’s useful for folks who don’t want to commit to a full year upfront.

Updated prices and plans

The mobile tier now starts at Rs 79 per month. Super comes in at Rs 149 monthly, and Premium sits at Rs 299. You can still grab quarterly and annual plans if you prefer those, and they do save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

The tiered structure itself is fairly straightforward. Mobile gets you access on one device at a time with ads, but Hollywood content isn’t included by default. You’ll need to pay extra for that through an add-on.

Super bumps things up to two simultaneous devices and throws in Hollywood programming as part of the base package. Premium goes further with four devices and removes ads from most content, though live sports and live shows will still have them.

One thing worth noting is that existing subscribers won’t see any changes to their pricing or benefits as long as they keep auto-renewal turned on. This new structure only applies to people signing up fresh.

The company says this pricing update reflects how viewing habits have shifted toward connected TVs and larger screens. Essentially, more people are watching on their televisions at home rather than just their phones, and JioHotstar wants its plans to match that behaviour.
