Lenovo IdeaPad, ThinkPad laptops launched with new Intel Core Ultra chips

Intel, earlier today, unveiled its latest Core Ultra series of CPUs, which have seen a lot of hype since they bring with them on-device AI capabilities. Now, several laptop brands have also already begun to unveil their latest offerings powered by said CPUs. One of them happens to be Lenovo, with its latest line of productivity-focused ThinkPad and IdeaPad laptops.

These are the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon 12th-gen, the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 9th-gen laptop, and the IdeaPad Pro 5i laptops. Here’s all you need to know about these machines.

Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i: Features and specifications

The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i is the world’s first Intel Evo edition laptop which runs on an Intel Core Ultra chipset. The laptop can be had in either a 14-inch or a 16-inch variant, equipped with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor. In addition to this, the laptop comes with up to 32GB of LPPDR5X RAM and a 1TB SSD. For graphics, the laptops can be configured with integrated Intel Arc graphics, or up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, should you need discrete graphics.

Depending on the size one picks, the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i comes with four display options. The 16-inch model comes with either a 2K OLED display with a 2,048 x 1,280 pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 400 nits, or a 16-inch 2.5K IPS display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 350nits.

The 14-inch model on the other hand comes with a 2.8K display, either OLED or IPS, both with a resolution of 2,880×1,800 pixels, a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 400 nits of brightness. For audio, there is a dual speaker setup with support for Dolby Atmos. The IdeaPad Pro 5i also comes with a Full HD resolution camera with a time-of-flight sensor, a privacy shutter, and support for Windows Hello.

The laptop sports an 84Wh battery under the hood. Connectivity options on the device include one USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 port, one USB 3.2 Gen-1 port, two USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card reader, a 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth v5.2 support.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 series: Features and specifications

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 12th-Gen and X1 2-in-1 9th-Gen laptops feature largely similar specs, with a few minor differences here and there. Both the new X1 laptops come with the new Intel Core Ultra chipsets, While the X1 Carbon 12th-Gen comes with 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM, the X1 2-in-1 supports up to 32GB LPDDR4X RAM

The X1 Carbon also comes with an Intel Arc GPU, while the X1 2-in-1 is limited to integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. The devices are available with 14-inch IPS and OLED displays, with a 2.8K resolution and 400 nits and 350 nits of brightness. For audio, both the laptops have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

While both the laptops have a standard FHD resolution camera, they can also be configured with an optional 8MP MIPI computer vision camera with a privacy shutter, with a higher resolution better suited to video conferencing.

The battery on the devices is a 57Wh unit. Connectivity options include two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2 USB Type-A ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and WLAN Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 support, as well as support for Bluetooth v5.3. There is also a camera privacy shutter, a fingerprint scanner, and a Kensington lock. The ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 also comes with an additional magnetic stylus.

Pricing and availability

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be available in multiple configurations starting today, and starts at $2,989 (Approximately Rs 2,50,000). The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1, on the other hand, will only be available in March 2024, with an expected starting price of $2,639 (approximately Rs 2,20,000). The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i meanwhile, starts at $1,149.99 (approximately Rs 95,500).

The Indian launch dates and pricing of these laptops remains unknown as of now, but we do hope Lenovo brings launches these new machines here quickly.
