MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 7100, a new smartphone chipset designed to balance performance, efficiency and imaging for mid-range phones. While no commercial devices have been confirmed yet, the platform gives a clear picture of what upcoming mid-range smartphones could prioritise in 2026.
Dimensity 7100: Specs and features
Built on an advanced 6nm manufacturing process, the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 introduces an updated power-management system that combines charging control, voltage optimisation and system-level tuning.
MediaTek highlights efficiency improvements across everyday apps, multimedia playback and modem usage, helping phones last longer during daily use. The chipset supports up to 45W fast charging, compatibility with universal fast charging standards and extra-low voltage operation that further improves battery endurance compared to conventional designs.
The processor uses an octa-core CPU layout with four Arm Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked up to 2.4GHz, supported by four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. This configuration is intended to keep multitasking, and app launches responsive without unnecessarily increasing power draw.
Graphics are handled by the Arm Mali-G610 GPU, which delivers smoother gaming and more stable frame rates while sustaining longer play sessions.
Camera, display and connectivity focus
Imaging capabilities are another key area, with support for camera sensors up to 200MP. The integrated ISP enables faster face detection, a wider autofocus detection area and improved low-light processing through multi-frame noise reduction. These enhancements are aimed at delivering sharper selfies, portraits and HDR video with more consistent results.
On the display front, the Dimensity 7100 supports 10-bit colour depth and multiple HDR standards, alongside refresh rates of up to 120Hz for smoother visuals.
Connectivity is handled by a Release-16 5G modem offering peak download speeds of up to 3.3Gbps and broader carrier aggregation for global compatibility. MediaTek 5G UltraSave 3.0+ is designed to reduce power consumption during mobile data use, while Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 improve wireless reliability.
Although official device announcements are still awaited, Tecno and Infinix smartphones are expected to be among the first to adopt the Dimensity 7100.
