MediaTek Dimensity 7400, Dimensity 6400 announced for budget 5G phones

MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 7400 and the Dimensity 6400 for budget smartphones. The latest chips come with a higher clock speed and 5G connectivity. While the Dimensity 6400 is meant for budget devices, the Dimensity 7400X is designed for dual-display flip phones. Here’s everything you need to know.

All you need to know about the Dimensity 7400

The MediaTek Dimensity 7400 series comprises the Dimensity 7400 and the Dimensity 7400X. The former is a successor to the Dimensity 7300, which is present inside the CMF Phone 1. The latter is a chipset built for flip-style foldable phones, thanks to its support for dual displays.

Both the 7400 SoCs are octa-core chipsets, with four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2GHz. For comparison, the predecessor Dimensity 7300 has 2.5GHz peak clock speed for the A78 cores.

Apart from this, most things remain the same as the Dimensity 7300. This includes TSMC’s 4nm process node and support for LPDDR5 and LPDDR4x RAM type with up to 6400mbps speeds. It has an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU for graphics. It supports UFS 3.1 and UFS 2.2 storage types.

For cameras, the 7400 series has an Imagiq 950 ISP, which brings 12-bit HDR and Hardware Face Detection support. The maximum support for video here is 4K HDR. It supports WFHD+ at 120Hz and FHD+ at 144Hz. Connectivity-wise, it has support for Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E with 2T2R antenna configuration, and 5G with 3CC carrier aggregation.

Everything you need to know about the Dimensity 6300

The Dimensity 6400 is an octa-core chipset for budget smartphones. It is based on TSMC’s N6 (6nm-class) process node, with two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.5GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2GHz. As the name suggests, it’s the successor to the Dimensity 6300 chipset, which is inside the Samsung Galaxy F06 5G.

The chipset has an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU for graphics. It also supports LPDDR4X RAM at 2133MHz frequency and UFS 2.2 storage type. As for the cameras, it supports 16MP + 16MP or 108MP resolution. For display, it supports 2520 x 1080 Full-HD+ resolution at up to 120Hz refresh rate. It also has support for 3D LUT and 21:9 aspect ratio.

Other than this, the chipset comes with the MediaTek Bluetooth Wi-Fi HyperCoex technology, which reduces gaming latency by up to 90 per cent. Further, for connectivity, it has 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.2.
