Meta’s AI just made video editing so easy, everyone can be a creator

Meta is rolling out a new generative AI video editing feature across the Meta AI app, Meta.AI website, and the Edits app, aimed at simplifying short-form video creation through preset editing prompts.

Inspired by Meta’s Movie Gen models, this marks the company’s first step in making AI-powered video generation widely accessible. Users can now apply over 50 AI prompts to 10-second clips, free for a limited time, and experiment with edits that range from changing clothing styles to transforming entire video environments into comic book scenes or dreamy, surreal visuals.

Easy as it gets

At the heart of this feature is Meta’s recent research in multimodal AI. The company has steadily advanced from its 2022 Make-A-Scene models to newer diffusion-based systems like Llama Image and Movie Gen, which laid the foundation for both media generation and text-guided editing. Now, all that technology is coming together to let users say goodbye to traditional editing tools, and say hello to seamless, stylised results from just a few taps.

The process is intentionally intuitive. You upload a video, pick a prompt, and watch it transform. Want to replace a cloudy city background with a vibrant virtual world? Done. Hoping to give your outfit a cyberpunk twist? One click. From the Meta AI app and Edits, edited clips can be shared directly to Instagram and Facebook or pushed to the Discover feed on Meta.AI.

While designed for everyday users, the feature has serious creator potential. Meta says it worked closely with content creators to build out prompts that resonate with audiences and integrate easily into existing workflows. That means more creators might soon be producing high-quality edits without the need for advanced skills or tools.

Meta’s generative AI journey is clearly picking up speed, and alongside all the recent announcements, this launch is proof that video editing is the next frontier it’s looking to reinvent.
