Microsoft Edge gets an AI upgrade with Copilot mode

Microsoft has rolled out Copilot Mode in the Edge browser as an experimental AI feature aimed at making web navigation intuitive. Unlike traditional browsing, it anticipates your needs and offers assistance, acting as your AI friend, while respecting your privacy.

Sounds good? Here’s all you need to know about the Copilot Mode in Microsoft Edge.

What's Copilot mode in Microsoft Edge?

Microsoft Edge users can now access the new Copilot mode for a smarter and intuitive browsing experience. And accessing it isn’t a workaround or a change of a setting. It should be live by default when you get the update.

When the Copilot Mode is active, a new tab opens with a single input box that merges chat search and navigation. The assistant interprets what you want to do and delivers faster actions and cleaner workflows.

One standout feature is multi-tab context intelligence. With your permission, Copilot can scan your open tabs and give you smarter decisions. So, if you are comparing travel rental options, it might highlight properties closest to the beach with kitchens included.

Voice control also plays a big role. You can speak commands to find information, open new tabs, or compare items. This enables voice-based browsing. Future updates may enable Copilot to carry out complex tasks like booking a rental or managing errands, assuming users give consent.

Copilot Mode also includes a dynamic pane assistant that offers help right on the page. This feature will let you do tasks without switching to a different tab. You can do unit conversions, translations, and more on the dynamic pane.

Edge will also organise browsing history into topic-based Journeys in upcoming updates. This feature aims to help you continue your work across browsing sessions by suggesting resources as you progress on projects.

For personalisation, Edge now supports Copilot-inspired themes, letting users apply colour palettes based on Copilot AI moods. Moreover, Microsoft assures that privacy is fully honoured here. Copilot Mode is strictly opt-in and only works with permissions users grant.
