Gemini Nano Banana comes to Google Photos, brings AI-powered image editing

Nano Banana, Google’s powerful image-editing AI model, has proven effective in generating and precisely editing images using natural language prompts. It excels at maintaining consistent character and subject identity across edits. Now, the search giant is bringing Nano Banana’s AI-powered photo editing skills right inside Google Photos.

The latest update to Google Photos introduces several new AI-driven features that make photo editing, creative transformations, and intelligent search more natural and conversational.

Google Photos gets Nano Banano image-editing skills

One of the major improvements in Google Photos is the ability to edit photos simply by describing the changes you want. Users can now ask the app to remove sunglasses, adjust smiles, or even open closed eyes using personalised edits.

Currently, the company is rolling out the “Help me edit” feature for iOS users in the US, offering both text and voice-based commands. The redesigned editor also sports a cleaner look with gesture controls and one-tap editing suggestions.

Nano Banana is also integrated into the Photos editor, enabling users to restyle images in creative ways, such as turning portraits into Renaissance art, tile mosaics, or storybook-style visuals.

A new “Create with AI” section is appearing in the Create tab for Android users in India and the US, equipped with templates like high-fashion photoshoots or professional headshots. Google also plans to add personalised edits based on users’ hobbies and experiences in the coming weeks.

Another key addition is the “Ask Photos” feature, which is being rolled out across 100 countries and supports 17 new languages. It allows users to search their photo albums in a conversational manner. A new ‘Ask’ button lets users interact directly with an image, ask questions about its content, or make quick edits through natural dialogue.

The latest version of Google Photos, now powered by Nano Banana’s image-editing skills, is available for both Android and iOS users. However, the features are being rolled out gradually, so it may take some time before they reach all users.
