At MWC 2026, Tecno has showcased a modular concept phone at the trade show. Last year, the Chinese brand showcased an ultra-thin concept smartphone that debuted in the market as Tecno Pova Slim 5G. The company calls its latest innovation Magnetic Interconnection Technology. As the name suggests, there are add-on accessories that can be snapped on to the smartphone.
Tecno's thinnest modular concept phone revealed
The Tecno Modular phone has an ultra-slim base measuring just 4.9mm. The brand shows plenty of modular accessories like power bank, action camera, telephoto lens, etc. This expands the phone’s capabilities depending on the user’s requirements without carrying a bulky device with built-in hardware. Tecno claims that the Modular phone’s overall profile remains portable compared to traditional brick phones.
Tecno’s Modular concept phone has a magnetic system on the rear panel. It is divided into eight specific zones that help guide and align modules when they’re placed in the right spot. The physical pogo-pin connectors pass power between the phone and the module. The accessory can communicate with the phone via WiFi, Bluetooth, or mmWave.

The Tecno Modular phone is in two design styles – ATOM edition is minimalistic featuring a silver aluminium finish and red accents, whereas, the MODA edition has a slightly darker shade that is said to be greek-inspired.
As the Tecno Modular phone is a concept device, it’s unlikely to make its way to the consumer market but we can see some of the features trickle down into mass-market smartphones.
