Apple’s next iPhone Pro series, dubbed the iPhone 17 Pro, is shaping up to be a serious leap in camera capabilities. Unlike before, we might get an impressive telephoto camera sensor that rivals Samsung’s Galaxy Ultra phone.
Latest reports suggest a whopping 8x optical zoom support on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which means you could zoom in better at your at concerts, or take better photos of flights moving in the sky. Or, simply flaunt the phone’s zooming capabilities in your friend’s group. Sounds good? Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro series.
All about the iPhone 17 Pro's camera upgrades
According to Macrumors, the iPhone 17 Pro will come with a major camera upgrade. The iPhone 17 Pro duo may get an 8x optical zoom support. That’s a big upgrade over the 5x zoom range of the existing iPhone 16 Pro models.
Another major addition could be a new Pro camera app built just for the iPhone 17 Pro. The app is expected to offer advanced tools for both photo and video recording, rivalling popular third-party apps.
Apple may also introduce support for dual recording, allowing users to capture footage from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously – a game-changer for vloggers and content creators.
There are also whispers about a new camera control button located on the top edge of the phone. This button may offer quick access to features like shutter release, focus lock, or mode switching, bringing a more pro-like feel to mobile shooting.

As for the sensors, the Pro models could move to a triple 48MP rear camera setup, with improvements in depth control through a mechanical aperture. Support for 8K video recording is also rumoured, along with a new cooling system to manage heat during high-performance tasks like extended filming or gaming.
While none of these features are officially confirmed, all signs point to Apple going all-in on camera upgrades for the iPhone 17 Pro. More will be known once the official launch nears, likely in September.
