The Nintendo Switch has been around for a while now and has since received incremental upgrades in the form of the Nintendo OLED and the Nintendo Switch Lite. Now, however, the gaming company has announced a true successor to the Switch, and no surprises, it is called the Nintendo Switch 2.
Despite being a successor, the Nintendo Switch 2 brings only a couple of major upgrades, like a larger display and snappable Joy-Cons. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Nintendo Switch 2.
What’s special with the Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo has released a trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2, which reveals a fair bit about the new gaming handheld. Starting with a larger footprint, the Switch 2 boasts a slightly bigger display over the Switch and adds a full width kickstand to let you place it on a tabletop.
Due to its large screen, gamers are expected to get a more immersive gaming experience. When using handheld as well, it may help you game better, but it will also add some extra weight due to its size. Although, Nintendo is yet to reveal how much the console weighs.
Besides a large screen, users also get magnetic Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Cons and the main body are now multi coloured, with a mix of blue and red. There’s also a home button and a square screenshot key for those who want to share fun memories within games.
Apart from this, there’s a USB Type-C port located at the top, but what’s great is this is a second Type-C port on the console. That means connectivity may not be a problem with the Switch 2. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, allowing you to connect your wired headphones.

As for its games, the Switch 2 will get the upcoming Mario Kart 9, alongside other titles. Nintendo might also make the older Switch games playable on the Switch 2, especially the popular Legend of Zelda series.
When can you get your hands on the console?
The Nintendo Switch 2 looks good, and it should arrive later this year. Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn’t revealed the exact release date of the console yet. However, those interested can experience the console in April at a showcase event in Los Angeles, Dallas, and New York.
In the meantime, if you want a handheld gaming console, you can check out the Asus ROG Ally, which is a handheld device, allowing you to access all your PC games on the go. If you want a proper console setup at home, there’s the Sony PlayStation 5 for you.
