The Android 16-based update gets a new look
This move follows the initial announcement during the Nothing Phone 3’s launch back in July and a closed beta program that has been running for select Phone 3 users.
Nothing OS 4.0 promises a significant aesthetic shift, with the teaser video revealing a new circular icon design language. Key system toggles like the Bluetooth switch and dark mode are getting the round treatment. This new look extends to other widgets, including a rumoured temperature monitor and the brightness adjustment slider.

The company also hinted at potential new features with icons showing an umbrella and a wheel-like object. Even the to-do list widget might get a refresh with a new square icon and a pill-shaped switch. Nothing is clearly aiming for a more cohesive and stylised user interface that it describes as both “refined” and “redefined”.
CEO Carl Pei confirmed that the stable update would begin rolling out in Autumn 2025, a timeline the company seems to be sticking to. The Nothing Phone 3 will be the first device to receive the stable OS 4.0 update. This isn’t surprising given it’s the current flagship and its users have been helping iron out bugs during the closed beta phase.
For users of the original Nothing Phone 1, the news is a bit more complicated. Having launched in July 2022, it has officially reached the end of its promised three-year software update window. However, Pei has vaguely mentioned that his team is developing a “program” for its “day-one users.” It’s unclear what this means as of yet.
