OnePlus just confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 15 will arrive with the world’s first 165Hz OLED screen, which will be created in partnership with display maker BOE.
The company is calling it the “third-generation Oriental Display” (translated from Chinese) and it’s already being described as the most advanced smartphone screen ever made.
Shattering records with BOE’s new Oriental Display tech
Li Jie Louis, president of OnePlus China, said the new panel marks the start of what he calls the “165Hz ultra-refresh era.” It may sound like marketing hype, but the specs look serious.
The 6.78-inch BOE X3 OLED panel will feature a 1.5K resolution, a true hardware-level 1-nit minimum brightness for darker settings, and certification from TÜV Rheinland’s Smart Eye Protection 5.0 Gold standard. It’s also set to receive an A++ rating from DisplayMate.
BOE claims this screen achieves eight major technological breakthroughs and nine world records in performance. The company says it leads in smoothness, colour accuracy, dark viewing, and visual comfort. If the hype holds up, yet another refresh rate arms race between Android high-ends may be on the way.
It’s worth mentioning that the partnership between OnePlus and BOE is not new. The OnePlus 13 already featured the second-generation Oriental Display, and before that, the company was among the first to champion high-refresh screens.

The journey actually started with the 90Hz display on the OnePlus 7 Pro back in 2019, continued with 120Hz on later models. But 165Hz is in a whole new league entirely.
The OnePlus 15 will also use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, giving it the muscle to back up all that display power. BOE’s big showcase event is scheduled for October 14 in Shenzhen, where OnePlus is expected to reveal more details and possibly give a first look at the new panel.
