OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Go in India, its most budget-friendly subscription tier so far. At just Rs 399 a month, the new plan brings GPT-5, higher usage limits, and the convenience of UPI payments to the world’s second-largest ChatGPT market. For a country where students, creators, and entrepreneurs have already woven the chatbot into their daily routines, ChatGPT Go feels like a tailor-made upgrade.
Millions of Indians rely on ChatGPT for everything from late-night homework help and coding experiments to brainstorming ad campaigns or even planning the week’s meals. But until now, unlocking the best version of the AI meant shelling out for ChatGPT Plus or Pro. These tiers often felt too steep for casual users. Go is different. It’s positioned as the sweet spot – powerful enough to feel premium, priced low enough to be an everyday habit.
Affordable AI with GPT-5 power
At the heart of ChatGPT Go is access to GPT-5, OpenAI’s most advanced model yet. The upgrades aren’t subtle either. Subscribers get ten times more messages, ten times more daily image generations, ten times more uploads, and double the memory compared to the free version. That means longer conversations, richer creative output, and a more personal feel to your chats.

India also gets something extra – improved Indic language support. Whether you’re drafting an email in Tamil, writing a college essay in Hindi, or translating a quick line into Bengali, the chatbot now feels more attuned to local nuances.
For many, that makes ChatGPT Go less of a luxury tool and more of a digital sidekick that fits seamlessly into everyday life. It’s the plan designed for students who can’t splurge on a Plus subscription, small businesses looking for smarter assistance, and creators who want more freedom without the commitment of Pro.
Easy payments with UPI integration
For the first time, OpenAI is letting Indian users pay for all subscription tiers (Go, Plus, and Pro) using UPI, our country’s favourite payment system. That means no more fussing with international cards or complicated billing. Upgrading is now as easy as scanning a QR code at your favourite café.
With Go priced at Rs 399 per month, it majorly undercuts the Rs 1,999 Plus plan and the high-powered Rs 19,900 Pro tier. The idea isn’t to replace them though, it’s to widen the circle. If the free version is the entry point and Plus/Pro are the power seats, Go is the casual, everyday pass.

Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT, put it simply, “We’ve been inspired by how millions of people in India use ChatGPT daily for learning, work, creativity, and problem-solving. With ChatGPT Go, we’re excited to make these capabilities even more accessible and easier to pay for through UPI”.
With ChatGPT Go, the company is betting that the next wave of adoption won’t come from big corporations or tech insiders, but from everyday users who just want smarter help at the right price.
