Oppo has officially locked in an October 15 release date for its next-generation Android 16-based software skin, ColorOS 16. The company confirmed via its Weibo account that the new operating system will be unveiled in Shenzhen during its annual Oppo Developer Conference (ODC).
A big focus on AI and smoothness
This event will also be the stage for Oppo to showcase its latest strategy for AI. The update is set to make its debut on a fresh wave of hardware including the Oppo Find X9 series and the Oppo Pad 5. The launch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CST which is 7:30 AM in India.
The biggest change is that the OS is expected to adopt a “liquid glass” design aesthetic.
The Find X9 and Find X9 Pro phones running the software are rumoured to launch the day after the event in China, with a potential global release on October 28. These devices are known to pack serious screen tech like the world’s first 1-nit display for better eye protection and an impressive 3840Hz PWM dimming rate.

When ColorOS 16 does land on devices, Oppo is promising some serious under-the-hood upgrades focused on creating a super smooth experience.
According to ColorOS Design Director Chen Xi, the software features “three breakthroughs”. The first is a new Aurora Engine which is being marketed as “Android‘s first seamless architecture”. Next up is an upgraded Tidal Engine which introduces chip-level dynamic tracking to keep frame rates from dipping during heavy use. Lastly, Oppo’s Star Compiler will work to improve the core fluidity algorithms.
Of course, these changes were announced for the Chinese version of ColorOS, but expect most of them to land in India as well when the update rolls out here. Oppo hasn’t provided a date for that just yet.
