Perplexity’s Comet AI browser arrives on iPhone with integrated search and task tools

Perplexity has expanded its Comet AI browser to the iPhone, bringing its assistant-driven browsing experience to iOS users. The new app introduces a blend of traditional web browsing and AI-powered search tools designed to help users find information and complete tasks more efficiently.

Comet browser combines search with an AI assistant

The Comet browser integrates a built-in AI assistant that works alongside traditional search results. Users can ask questions, receive summaries and interact with web content directly inside the browser. Instead of moving between multiple tabs or applications, the assistant can analyse the content on a page and provide quick explanations or additional context.

The browser also includes a voice interaction mode that allows users to speak queries instead of typing them. In addition, Comet supports Perplexity’s Deep Research capability, which gathers information from different online sources and generates concise summaries. The assistant can also handle certain web-based actions such as summarising emails, searching for products and comparing prices across different websites.

Comet aims to simplify browsing by combining search, chat and task management in a single interface. It also allows users to start browsing activity on one device and continue it on another, creating a connected experience across supported platforms.

Availability across platforms

The iPhone release expands Comet’s availability across several operating systems. The browser is already accessible on Mac, Windows and Android devices, allowing users to access the same AI-assisted browsing tools across different environments.

However, the iOS version currently has some limitations compared with desktop editions. It does not support third-party browser extensions due to Apple’s platform restrictions. There is also no dedicated iPad version available at launch.

Perplexity has confirmed that browsing and search history collected through Comet may be used to create advertising profiles for targeted ads. The company previously offered the browser at a subscription price of around $200 per month when it first launched on desktop platforms.

The Comet browser for iPhone is now available as a free download from the App Store.
