Samsung introduced a broader environmental initiative called Ocean Mode, focused on coral reef restoration, back in 2025. It debuted on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but was initially limited to researchers and partners, not regular users. The latest generation Galaxy S26 Ultra already has Ocean Mode in the Expert RAW app and it is now rolling out to older models.
Ocean Mode spotted in OneUI 8.5 Beta on Galaxy S25 Ultra
Spotted by SamMobile, the One UI 8.5 beta on the Galaxy S25 Ultra updates the Expert RAW app to version 5.0.08.2. It introduces Ocean Mode on last year’s flagship model in the Galaxy S25 family.

For those unaware, Ocean Mode is a camera feature that offers automatic colour correction, optimises white balance, and reduces motion. It enhances underwater photography. The feature is a part of the software algorithm instead of a change in hardware. As per Samsung, it can capture efficient and high-quality images of coral reefs.
The Ocean Mode is already available to the regular public on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. With the feature now spotted in the One UI 8.5 beta version on last year’s ultra model, it seems that everybody can try it out. It will also likely be available on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
It’s worth noting that Ocean Mode is accessible through Samsung’s Expert RAW app instead of the regular camera app. Another thing worth mentioning is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra, and S26 Ultra smartphones have an IP68 rating against dust and water-resistance, especially for fresh water. Salt water can damage the smartphone.
So, if you plan to take your compatible Galaxy Ultra model underwater for photography, it’s advisable to use a watertight case.
