Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold, which recently went official in South Korea, is said to be selling like hot cakes. As it’s being made available to users, more details about its advanced internals are emerging. The tri-foldable device, which can be folded twice to function as a regular smartphone or unfolded for a tablet-like experience, is packed with several new technologies.
A new report by a South Korean publication revealed that the device is equipped with a new wireless charging technology being used on a Samsung device for the first time.
Galaxy Z TriFold packs a new wireless charging tech
US-based Witz, which specialises in wireless charging technology, has been providing wireless charging solutions to Samsung for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series smartphones. The same company has now specially designed a new Qi wireless charging module for the Galaxy Z TriFold.
The new Qi wireless charging technology developed by Witz is slimmer and supports up to 15W wireless induction charging. It is also compliant with the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) Qi standard. Since Samsung’s tri-foldable carries Qi2 Ready certification, it does not feature built-in magnets. However, it supports Qi2 accessories when used with a Qi2-ready case equipped with built-in magnets.
This new wireless charging setup helps the Galaxy Z TriFold maintain its ultra-thin profile. While the device measures 12.9mm when fully folded, it is just 3.9mm thin when completely unfolded. At present, its availability is limited to the home market and is expected to be widely available next year.
Galaxy S26 series to get an upgraded wireless charging support
Recent reports have suggested that Samsung may introduce a wireless charging upgrade with the upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup, which is expected to debut in February 2026. So far, Galaxy S-series flagships have been limited to 15W wireless charging support.
However, the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra are said to arrive with Qi2.2 certification and built-in magnets. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to support up to 25W wireless charging, while the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ may offer up to 20W wireless charging speeds.
