Samsung Display showed off what could be one of the most meaningful upgrades to foldable phones yet: a foldable screen with no visible crease. It is the kind of refinement that truly changes how a foldable feels in daily use.
The panel was revealed during CES 2026, where Samsung Display demonstrated a foldable OLED that appears smooth even along the hinge line. The company has been chipping away at the crease for years, but this is the first time the fold has looked convincingly invisible under normal viewing.
A smoother fold and a hidden camera
Beyond the absence of a crease, the display also integrates an under-display selfie camera. By placing the front-facing camera beneath the panel, Samsung Display removes the need for hole-punch cutouts, resulting in an uninterrupted slab of glass when the device is unfolded. The bezels appear slim, with softly curved corners that give the panel a more polished, near-tablet aesthetic.
Images of the display were shared online by tipster Ice Universe. Interestingly, the technology could be destined for Apple’s long-rumoured foldable phone. According to the leak, Apple may use this Samsung panel for its first foldable iPhone, informally referred to as the iPhone Fold.

Samsung itself may also deploy the display in a future device, with speculation pointing towards the so-called Galaxy Wide Fold. For now, both possibilities remain unconfirmed.
What this could mean for foldables in 2026
If the technology does reach mass production, it would mark a turning point for foldables, which have long been criticised for visible creases and camera cutouts breaking immersion. A truly crease-free fold would make the inner display feel closer to a conventional smartphone or tablet, rather than a compromise in exchange for flexibility.
Leaks suggest Apple’s foldable could arrive in 2026, with a slim profile and a book-style design, but neither Apple nor Samsung has publicly committed to launch timelines.

Until then, the CES showcase serves as a preview of where foldable design is heading. One with fewer visual distractions, cleaner surfaces, and hardware that finally feels mature.
