Here's your morning brief, sir!

Samsung’s latest in the works feature will actually make your phone, your assistant

In a quiet update that might just change how you start your day, Samsung appears to be working on a new feature called “Listen Brief” which is an audio version of its Now Brief summary tool introduced on the Galaxy S25 series back in January. This little addition was first spotted by Android Authority during an APK teardown of the upcoming One UI 8 firmware.

So what’s the big deal?

Well, imagine this… You’re fumbling with your keys, coffee in hand, rushing to your car. Instead of glancing at your phone, your Galaxy S25 reads you the weather, your first meeting, traffic delays on the 405, and even breaking headlines. That’s Listen Brief in action. It is a hands-free, glance-free, and increasingly human assistive experience.

Code snippets reveal playback controls (play, pause, stop), and even let users choose between Samsung and Google’s text-to-speech engines. For people who are visually impaired or simply multitasking, this could be a game-changer. Think of it like your daily planner with a voice, not unlike how smart speakers deliver morning briefings, but baked directly into your phone.

Now Brief currently delivers summaries in text form across three windows – morning, afternoon, and evening. These include weather forecasts, calendar events, news, and traffic updates.

If Listen Brief mirrors this content, it effectively turns your smartphone into a personal assistant that speaks your day into motion. If you are planning on mimicking the Jarvis and Iron Man style of communication with your phone, well, it is getting there.

So while Listen Brief might be a step in the right direction, it’s just that. A step.

But for those moments when you’re too busy to scroll, or just want a gentler start to the day, having your phone talk you through your morning might be exactly the nudge Samsung needs to make Now Brief feel essential.
