Sennheiser HD 505 headphones announced for audiophiles on a budget

Premium sound, leather feel and a colour-scheme straight from… Marshall?

Sennheiser HD 505 headphones announced for audiophiles on a budget

Sennheiser recently announced its newest pair of headphones, the Sennheiser HD 505. The headphones are armed with a wide-frequency range, comfortable design elements and more.

Here’s everything you need to know about this audio product, what features it comes with, and most importantly – what separates it from other headphones in the range. Let’s go.

Sennheiser HD 505: What’s new?

The Sennheiser HD 505 comes with a 120-ohm transducer, with a frequency range of 12-38,500Hz. The wide audio frequency support allows you to hear true and accurate music without a lot of harmonic distortions.

The headphones also come with angled transducers, which replicate the audio experience of listening to a set of nearfield speakers. This is done to give the audio of movies, shows, and games a front-row audience feeling.

Other specifications include a 1.8m cable, a 3.5mm plug that can connect to most devices, including laptops and even some smartphones (although some phones will need a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter). Sennheiser also throws in a larger 6.3mm adapter which can connect to other music equipment including sound cards, amplifiers and audio-interfaces.

The headphones come with a synthetic leather headband and an in-line microphone. They also feature a black and gold colour scheme, which look pretty close to the Marshall aesthetic found in headphones like the Marshall Major IV. The headphones also weigh in at just 237 grams, which makes it fairly lightweight. The Sennheiser HD 505 is priced at € 279.90, or about Rs 25,292.

What the Sennheiser HD 505 doesn’t have is Active Noise Cancellation, or ANC – a popular feature present on premium headphones right now. We guess that’s the trade-off to get headphones that can cover a wider range of frequencies.

However, if you’re okay with a more standard frequency range of up to 20,000Hz, but could really use ANC support, you can consider alternatives like the Sony WH-1000XM5, which costs about the same but offers one of the best noise-cancellation experiences right now.
