Spotify introduces new features, including 30-day snooze and playlist customisation

In its pursuit to better user experience, Spotify on Wednesday introduced a host of control-focused features for its users. The streaming giant is gradually rolling out tools that put more power directly in listeners’ hands, making music exploration both easier as well as intuitive.

These updates are a part of Spotify’s move to letting users shape their own listening journey — be it playlist curation to recommendation refinement. Those frustrated with streaming limitations or algorithmic suggestions that miss the mark, these features will soon offer a welcome solution and change the way we interact with our music libraries. Here’s everything you need to know:

Spotify introduces new features: What's there to know?

Whether you’re a Premium user or someone who prefers the free version, Spotify just dropped something for everyone. Here’s a breakdown of the new tools that will give you effortless control over your listening experience.

Upgraded listening

Premium subscribers can now access an enhanced Queue feature through the three-dot menu in the top right corner. This upgrade brings together Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat Mode, and Sleep Timer controls in one convenient location.

The improved Queue now displays upcoming suggested tracks rather than playing them without warning. Users can easily disable Autoplay or Smart Shuffle in Settings, and take advantage of a new hide button that removes unwanted songs across all devices and playlists.

For those tracks you’re temporarily tired of, Spotify is testing a Snooze for 30 days option that temporarily removes songs from recommendations without deleting them completely.

Better playlist customisation

Playlist management gets a major boost with improved track rearrangement and the ability to create custom cover images. Those from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and the US can also try the new “generate a playlist” feature that automatically groups tracks by genre.

Improved collaboration and curation

Social listening takes centre stage with enhanced collaboration tools. The + button in the bottom-right corner lets you create and share playlists with friends, join a Blend, or start a Jam for real-time group sessions.

AI Playlists, which create custom collections from simple text prompts, are now available to Premium users across 40 markets throughout Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Users can also enjoy a redesigned Your Library section at the bottom of the screen with more personalised content. These features started rolling out May 7, so don’t worry if you haven’t seen them yet — they’re coming to all users in phases. For more tech news and tips, subscribe to Unboxed by Croma.
