The article contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, so proceed with caution, if you haven’t had the chance to catch it all yet.
Hawkins is no longer just haunted, it’s quarantined. Season 5 of Stranger Things opens with the town under control of the US military, not to protect it, but to dissect the Upside Down itself.

The stakes feel higher and more personal than ever, especially after Volume 1 revealed that (spoilers ahead) Will may share Vecna’s unnerving psychic connection, possibly even his powers. As most fans already know, Netflix is dropping episodes in a staggered manner, so the final four episodes of the series finale are yet to come.
The final countdown has officially begun, here’s when it all comes to a close.
Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 release date
Netflix isn’t dropping the final season all at once. Instead, it’s stretching the suspense with a three-volume rollout. Volume 2, featuring Episodes 5, 6, and 7, will arrive on December 25, 2025, delivering a Christmas binge that’s more eerie than cosy.
The final episode, bundled as Volume 3, lands on December 31, 2025, turning New Year’s Eve into a supernatural countdown. The strategy will essentially keep the conversation alive, and keep fans guessing right up to the very end.
The turning point for Hawkins and Will
Volume 2 could be the emotional and narrative hinge of the season. With Will now positioned as a possible psychic counterpart to Vecna, the show’s focus shifts from pure survival to a deeper exploration of connection between them.
Is Will the key to closing the gate for good, or the reason it opens wider? Meanwhile, Hawkins remains trapped not by monsters, but by human curiosity, as the Upside Down becomes a laboratory of secrets rather than a threat to fear.
