Upcoming WhatsApp feature will soon allow you to create group events

It’s another day, and we’ve come across another cool upcoming WhatsApp feature. As per a leak online, this latest feature happens to be an Events option for group chats. Wondering just what it is and what it can do for you? Read on.

What the new Events feature is and how it works

Say you’re having a party on Saturday night at your place. Now, instead of having to go through the hassle of calling or messaging people, inviting them, and asking them for an RSVP, all you need to do is create an event on a WhatsApp group with all the invitees, and you’re set.

All you need to do is go to the share menu on your WhatsApp chat window, and you should see an “Events” option. Now, tap on the same, give your event a name, and mention a date, time, and location. It’s that simple. What’s even cooler, is that you can also add a video call option, which is useful for those who may want to attend but can’t make it.

The new group event feature from WhatsApp, per reports, is end-to-end encrypted. This means your events with your loved ones or colleagues, remain confidential, the way your messages and media do as well.

However, it is important to note here that the new group events feature on WhatsApp is currently available only to beta users. Also, it is currently available only for WhatsApp communities. There has been no official confirmation from WhatsApp, as to when the feature will be released as a stable update to its users on Android and iOS devices, or when it will be rolled out for group chats.

Other exciting WhatsApp features to look out for

In a bid to establish its dominance in the instant messaging space, WhatsApp has been working on a whole bunch of new features in the past couple of months.

In addition to landscape mode support and screen sharing for video calls, WhatsApp is also said to be working on a call scheduling feature, as it looks to take on mainstream meeting apps including Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.

Other new features WhatsApp has also released recently, include Channels, the ability to share HD photos and videos, AI-generated stickers, the ability to use multiple accounts on the same number, and more.
