You can now take on weekly missions in CS2, and revisit classic and community maps in a new light

Valve has just dropped a fresh update for Counter-Strike 2, and this one’s bringing in some solid gameplay tweaks and new content to keep players on their toes. While there’s no new game mode this time around, the addition of Weekly Missions is a much-welcomed change. Players will now receive a unique mission every week, accessible directly from the main or play menu. These missions expire after seven days and reward XP upon completion, finally giving players something to grind for on a weekly basis.

Map pool revamp will bring excitement to Casual game mode

The map rotation has also seen a big shake-up. Community favorites Basalt, Edin, Palais, and Whistle have been removed from all game modes, making room for Jura, Grail, and Agency, now available in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch. Wingman mode sees the arrival of Dogtown and Brewery. Casual and Deathmatch have been reorganised into map groups, with classics like Dust 2 and Mirage in Group Alpha, and heavy-hitters like Train and Nuke in Group Delta. The Community Map Group now houses Jura, Grail, and Agency, while Office and Italy remain in the Hostage group.

Audio tweaks are also in focus. A new “Main Menu Ambience Volume” setting has been added, and several sound bugs have been addressed, including missing attacker feedback sounds through smoke and gameplay audio skips. Some old console commands like snd_setmixer and its variants have also been removed for clarity.

Rounding out the update, Valve has fixed a pesky bug where the US English “/” key binding wouldn’t persist across launches. Also, lobby invites from blocked players will now be ignored, improving the quality of online interactions. With this update, Valve continues refining CS2 in all the right ways, slowly but surely building up to a long and storied legacy for the game after that long-awaited full release.
