WhatsApp is reportedly testing an AI-powered image editor

WhatsApp has introduced multiple features that are designed to ensure the best of user experience, whether it is for the smartphone or the desktop version. Only a few weeks ago, the instant messaging platform introduced the search by date feature that will allow users to look for old messages within conversations with ease.

Last week, it also rolled out an update that will let users pin up to three messages in a chatbox. And if that’s not all, the Meta-owned company is reportedly testing AI technology for its in-app photo editing feature. Here’s everything we know so far:

AI photo editing feature on WhatsApp: What's there to know

According to WAbetainfo, several users have observed the new feature with the WhatsApp v2.24.7.13 beta update. Located in the top-left corner of the screen, the photo-editing tool offers users three options – backdrop, restyle, and expand.

The report goes on to mention that the backdrop option will allow you to modify the background within your image. This could mean allowing you to blur it or replace it with a different image entirely. Similarly, the restyle option will let a user tweak the colours and edit the photo according to their preference.

So, if you wish to change the tone and warmth of an image, you probably won’t have to go too far to give your photos a final touch before you send them.

Lastly, the expand feature will adjust the subjects within your image to ensure they are more visible to the receiver.

How to get the AI image-editing feature on WhatsApp

For now, WhatsApp seems to be testing the feature for a subset of users. While it isn’t known if it will make it to all smartphone apps in the near future, there are chances that the company will take this up large scale and incorporate several other editing features within the tool based on the success. In either case, the feature may just be a helpful addition and reduce the need to have multiple apps in the future.
